02 Nov Solarus Launches its Solar PowerCollector™ with Record Breaking 70% Efficiency
A hybrid system that generates more power (heat and electricity) per square meter than any other rooftop system in the world.
Solarus now granted membership to Social Stock Exchange London.
Solarus launches its rooftop PowerCollector™ and kickstarts a new generation of solar collectors. The Solarus PowerCollector™ has a revolutionary high energy yield with an efficiency of 70%. Per square meter it delivers a massive energy output of 650 W. The complete module delivers 1,500 W. It quadruples the energy output of most traditional PV systems that reach only 15%-20% efficiency.
The power of Solarus is now also backed by the Social Stock Exchange (SSX) in London that granted a membership to Solarus. This provides Solarus access to the world’s first regulated exchange dedicated to businesses and investors seeking to achieve a positive social and environmental impact through their activities. 4 times more efficient
The Solarus PowerCollector™ is a hybrid system producing electricity and heat out of one module. It uses patented solar concentration technology and Active Cell Cooling™ to boost its performance. This hybrid system has long been dubbed as the ”golden egg” of solar, because compared with PV-panels it produces a factor 4 more power per surface installed and it solves many of the problems that the relatively inefficient PV panels still have.
Traditional PV panels only generate electricity. Using this electricity for heating and cooling purposes is the most inefficient way of energy usage. And the fact that solar cells loose power when heated up, and the sun surely will heat them up, does not help either to be efficient. All traditional PV panels loose about 5% efficiency with every 10°C degrees they heat up over 25 °C. Which means that at 100°C PV panels have lost more than 35% of their efficiency. By cooling the photo voltaic cells on the PowerCollector™ Solarus keeps the electricity output on a high level while producing a spectacular thermal output. The active cell cooling creates a longer life span of the solar cells, which are extremely sensitive to heat.
The fact that hybrid collectors would replace conventional solar panels was long known to scientists, but the technology was difficult to master. It took the Solarus R&D team (after spinning off from the Swedish energy giant Vattenfall) over 6 years to develop a patented technology that was possible to mass produce.
New factory ramps up production
In 2015 Solarus attracted new funding by private investors and set up the automated factory in Venlo (The Netherlands) that is now spitting out the PowerCollectors™ in growing quantities. Over the last 18 months the Solarus hybrid technology was introduced in many markets in Europe, Southern Africa, India, China and Brazil. Flagship projects were installed by selected business partners. The world is getting to know a new paradigm. Hotels finally have the system that despite of limited roof space produces all of their energy. Also hospitals, apartment buildings and houses finally get both electricity, heating and cooling (by heat exchangers) at the same time. And there is no need to turn electricity into heat. Because the PowerCollectors™deliver it directly from the sun.
Imagine replacing all the electrical geysers in South Africa with this new solution, that produces the heat needed and on top of that produces electricity for the household. The PowerCollector™ does not use electricity to produce heat, it produces electricity while delivering the heat!
With the spectacular efficiency of the PowerCollector™ it really pays off to invest in its installation. Depending on the power supply in a specific geography the savings on energy bills can be a huge contribution to fight energy poverty. And it goes without notice that a substantial reduction of CO2 emissions is achieved.
Membership Social Stock Exchange
The Social Stock Exchange (SSX) stands for change in the way that investments are sought – and sold. To become a member at SSX , Solarus just passed a stringent validation process based on the Solarus Impact Report. We were assessed for the potential to deliver viable returns on investments and for the way we will adhere to our own social and/or environmental mandates and missions.
Solarus passed SSX’s vetting process and met its requirements and is now free to deal with investors within the SSX community. Using the Impact Report information generated through this process, investors can now with confidence start relationships with Solarus. This fits really well in Solarus next financing round that is being prepared.
Solarus is a private company founded in 2006 and it develops, produces and sells hybrid solar PowerCollectors. The company is headquartered in Venlo (The Netherlands) and has an R&D centre in Gävle (Sweden). Solarus works worldwide with local distributors and installers and is now active in Europe, (South)Africa, India, Brazil and Turkey. The company’s mission is ‘Solar power for the people’. By being good Solarus is doing good, which is a reason for Solarus to be a certified BCorp. (www.bcorp.org).
