Housing project ‘Kolenpark’ is the second project in Groningen (The Netherlands) with a large Solarus system and aquifer thermal energy storage solution. The Solarus system generates heat from the sun and stores it in the soil sub-surface. In winter, when heat demand is high, the heated groundwater can be extracted. This is an excellent combination of technologies that manage the seasonal variances, something often seen as a challenge in the energy transition journey.
